On August 2, 2019, my Mom, Frances, gained her wings. She had spent the last 6 years of her life at Lake Forest Park, her last 5 months in Memory Care. I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the Staff. They are all truly phenomenal caregivers. From the receptionist, to the hairdresser to the laundry staff, to housekeeping, to maintenance, to the kitchen staff. They are all just such wonderful, caring people. Summer is officially coming and we’ve got some tips for you to make it an unforgettable one! Life hands you plenty of lemons and it’s time to start making lemonade! With these simple tips you will lead not only a happy but a healthy life.
- Exercise Daily
It is important to maintain a healthy life and exercise is KEY in doing so! Studies show that you can benefit from as little as 15 minutes of exercise per day! Can you imagine what 30 minutes would do for you? The great thing is that are so many ways for you to get the exercise that you need! It is as simple as going for a hike, walk, bike ride, swim, dance, lifting weights, even cleaning! You could be exercising without even knowing you are!
- Seek Adventure
You’re probably thinking to do this you’re going to have to jump out of plane and you certainly don’t have to! Although I hear it is quite the exhilarating experience! Seeking adventure can be as simple as taking a stroll through the park, visiting a new restaurant in town that you haven’t been to, taking a vacation to the beach with family and friends. It’s important that we live our lives to the fullest and see and do as much as we can. It’s never too late to take that European vacation!
- Sleep Well
Did you know that sleep plays a critical role in the immune system, metabolism, memory, learning, and other vital functions. Adults ages 26 and more should sleep 7-9 hours every night! So go grab your favorite pillow and catch some z’s!
- Trust Yourself
Having confidence and trust in yourself is an admirable quality to have. And you guessed it! It’s healthy! Relieve ourself of all that stress and anxiety and trust that EVERYTHING is going to be alright! Don’t sweat the small stuff! You’re the captain of your own ship! In the words of Fleetwood Mac, “You can go your own way!”
- Live in the Moment
Enjoy EVERY moment that you have! Live in the present not the past nor future! Appreciate all the moments, little or big, and cherish them. You’ve got one shot at this life so don’t miss it!
- Be Grateful
Aristotle once said, “It is just that we should be grateful, not only to those with whose views we may agree, but also to those who have expressed more superficial views; for these also contributed something, by developing before us the owers of thought.” What are you grateful for? Who are you grateful for? What impact have they had in your life? Let that sink in.
- Accept Change
There’s one thing that is consistent in life and that is change! Whether the change in weather, change in the number of your friends/family, change in the color of leaves throughout the season, or change in the way we view the world. So many aspects of our lives are constantly changing and we must accept them and adapt for change can be a beautiful thing!
